How much will you spend on Christmas this year? Get a pen and a bit of paper and jot down your estimate. Surprised? Horrified?!!!
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has said it would be ‘wonderful’ if people gave a tenth of their Christmas shopping budget to their local food bank. That’s ten pounds in every hundred you spend. Nationally over 350,000 people have received support from food banks in the last year.
Bridport’s food banks, Cupboard Love and Hopeful Hampers, have seen a marked increase in the number of people requiring some help with the basic necessities of everyday living. If you would like to help some of your neighbour’s in Bridport who may be facing a challenging time financially this Christmas you can donate via St. Mary’s Church.
Gifts of money may be left at the Rectory, 84 South Street. Cash should be in an envelope marked ‘Cupboard Love’. Cheques should be made payable to ‘St. Mary’s Church Bridport’ and please write ‘Cupboard Love’ on the back. If you would like to make a donation of tinned or packet food (not date expired, please) it may be left at St. Mary’s Church on South Street which is open daily from 09.45 a.m. to 16.00 p.m.
Let’s see if we can rise to the Archbishop’s Ten Per Cent Challenge’ in Bridport!
A blessed and peaceful Christmas to you and those whom you love.
