The unrelenting storms of the first part of 2014 hit West Bay, part of the Bridport Team on several occasions. The storm that hit during the night of 14/15 February was particularly bad as it was combined with high tide. The waves broke over the top of the harbour causing the late-night evacuation of several homes in George Street. The sea front, where in the summer visitors park their cars and enjoy the promenade was covered in pebbles from the beach (the beach is some six metres below) and huge waves surged across the road causing damage to walls. Fortunately no one was hurt and a semblance of calm returned by the morning. The white building behind the extended arm of the digger is St. John’s Church which was undamaged.
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful, because I come to you for safety. In the shadow of your wings I find protection until the raging storms are over. Psalm 57 v.1
