Each year in May a re-enactment group gather at Walditch to recreate the American camp that was there during World War Two as soldiers trained using the surrounding area, beach and cliffs in preparation for the D Day landings. The particular unit that had been based in Walditch suffered amongst the heaviest casualties during D Day. St.Mary’s Church, Walditch is currently working toward placing a permanent memorial to the soldiers in the church.
